A Helsinki International Artist-in-residence Programme (Helsinki Nemzetközi Alkotóházi Ösztöndíjprogram, HIAP) alkotóházi ösztöndíjat hirdet képzőművészeknek Finnországba, Svédországba, Dániába, Írországba és Norvégiába. A részvétel feltétele, hogy a jelentkező 40 évesnél fiatalabb, professzionális művész legyen, legalább ötéves folyamatos képzőművészeti munkássággal, továbbá beszéljen angolul.

A programot az Európai Unió Kultúra programja támogatja.

You are eligible to apply if you live and are professionally based in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Montenegro, Serbia, Slovenia, Estonia, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Poland, Romania or Slovakia

In partnership with four North European artist-in-residence centres, HIAP is pleased to announce an open call for applications to visual artists and art professionals under the age of 40 from new and applicant EU Member States. Visual artists and art professionals are invited to apply for research and production residencies hosted by the organisers within the framework of the Paths Crossing project. This residency and cooperation project is co-funded by the European Union’s Culture Programme for 2010-2012.

Deadline for applications: Thursday, January 13, 2011, 5:00 pm (GMT +2)

The main purpose of this collective endeavour is to discover and support new talent, providing opportunities for international mobility to visual artists and art professionals from Eastern and Central Europe. Another key aim is to build new networks of cooperation between the participating countries. The five participating artist-in-residency centres are together able to offer fifteen individual production and research residencies, each from one to six months in duration. Artists, curators, critics and researchers based in Europe (see countries above) are all eligible to apply.

The selected applicant will receive:

• a travel grant
• a subsistence grant to cover living expenses
• a production grant
• free accommodation and studio space for the duration of the residency
• administrative, practical and curatorial support in developing a project within the framework of Paths Crossing
• support in establishing contacts with local artists and organisations

Nordisk Kunstnarsenter Dalsåsen (NO): two six-month research and production residencies

Eligibility criteria – Applicant’s profile

Applications will be accepted from professional artists and art professionals under the age of 40 with at least 5 years of continuous professional experience in the Visual Arts (no restrictions of approach or medium). The applicant should live and work in one of the eligible countries mentioned above. To foster artistic dialogue and interdisciplinary collaboration, good command of English is expected.

Please note that we do not accept applications from students.

Application guidelines

Applications should be submitted in English and include:

• The project’s application form filled out. The form can be downloaded from: paths application form

• Letter of motivation / applicant’s statement

• Clearly formulated proposal for the project to be produced within the framework of Paths Crossing, including estimated budget and schedule (range max. 2 x A4 pages)

• Indication of the applicant’s preferred residency centre and timing of the residency

• Documentation / portfolio of previous works as a PDF file or alternatively max. 15 jpeg images, video links, website information and a list identifying works by number, title, medium, size and year of completion

• Curriculum Vitae with full contact details indicating artistic experience and education (max 2 x A4 pages)

Additional material such as articles, publications, etc. can be included in the application only in electronic form.

Please note that electronic material should be compatible with both Mac and PC computers and readable using common office software.

Paths Crossing is looking for proposals that experiment with different aspects of artistic production and demonstrate emotional and intellectual insight, personal dedication and depth of artistic reasoning. There are no limitations on the medium or method of the proposed production.

HIAP – Helsinki International Artist Programme, Helsinki (FI)

HIAP was founded in 1998 by a coalition of artists and arts organisations. Based in Helsinki, Finland, it is one of the largest international residency centres in Northern Europe. In its two locations, one on the fortress island of Suomenlinna, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and one at the Cable Factory, the organisation hosts 80-100 international artists and arts mediators annually. The residency programme is designed principally for artists and curators from all disciplines within the field of the visual arts. In collaboration with institutional partners, residencies are also offered to practitioners from the fields of dance, theatre and literature. HIAP has expanded during the past few years into an art centre comprising eight studio apartments, four guest rooms and two gallery spaces. The centre has long been an artist-run organization, administered and supervised by practicing professional artists, arts administrators and directors of various cultural organisations. All artistic work produced as part of the Paths Crossing project will be exhibited at HIAP’s own galleries or other local exhibition spaces.

BAC – Baltic Art Center, Visby (SE)

Baltic Art Center is a production office and work space for artists, curators and contemporary art writers located on the Swedish island Gotland. We run a variety of different production and residency programmes. BAC is a flexible organisation placing the artistic process at the centre of our activities. We have no permanent studios or exhibition rooms. BAC works actively with questions concerning the relationship between the artistic process, institutions and society with the aim of continuously assessing and re-thinking our working methods.

HIAP will host six three-month research and production residencies within the framework of the Paths Crossing project.

Fabrikken for Kunst og Design, Copenhagen (DK)

FFKD was founded in 1994 to provide studio space for young and emerging artists and a platform for diverse cultural activities. It is a non-profit artist-run space with 55 studios located in a converted old industrial laundry in Copenhagen. Fabrikken provides a work space for all kinds of artists, designers, set designers, magazine editors, web designers, etc. Since its inauguration, Fabrikken has maintained a high-profile programme of exhibitions and other cultural events. International residencies were introduced to the programme in 2007. The FFKD embraces a wide array of media and offers workshops in photography, wood, metal, textiles, printmaking and ceramics. It also provides assistance in establishing contacts with any local professional services that artists might need. The artistic work produced as part of the Paths Crossing project will be displayed in a solo showing at the FFKDS’ own exhibition space.

The FFKD will host two three-month research and production residencies within the framework of the Paths Crossing project.

Temple Bar Gallery & Studios, Dublin (IE)

TBG&S, founded 1983, is one of Ireland’s leading art venues located in a prime site on Temple Bar square in Dublin’s Cultural Quarter. It is a non-profit studios-based organisation with a significant gallery space that hosts a high-profile programme of established and emerging Irish and international artists working in a wide range of media. Designed by leading Irish architects McCullough / Mulvin, the purpose-built gallery and studio complex integrates a gallery with on-street access, an atrium space and 30 artists’ studios. The organisation supports the artists’ career development in many different ways. The International Studio Programme, operating since 2006, offers international artists the opportunity to research, work and develop their practice in a Dublin context. The TBG&S embraces a wide range of media and will provide assistance in establishing contacts with any professional local services that artists might need. The work produced as part of the Paths Crossing project will be considered for presentation in the TGB&S’ own exhibition space or another gallery in Dublin. Temple Bar Gallery and Studios is primarily funded by The Arts Council of Ireland.

Nordisk Kunstnarsenter Dalsåsen / Nordic Artists’ Centre Dalsåsen (NO)

nkd, founded in 1998, is located in the village of Dale on the West Coast of Norway. The centre is an independent foundation concentrating exclusively on long-term residencies, workshops and projects in visual culture. It is funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Culture and has five fully equipped residencies of various sizes. Residency is offered to visual artists, architects, designers and curators. The centre’s facilities include wireless internet access, a common/shared workshop, a machinery hall for woodwork, a darkroom and a special ventilated room for painting, etc. The workshop is also furnished with welding equipment and facilities for printmaking.

Nkd will host two six-month research and production residencies within the framework of the Paths Crossing project.
